La Jolla Aquatics Swim Team | home
Welcome to the La Jolla Aquatics swim team. In this letter, I will be going over all the stuff you will need to know to get through the season.
What you will need: The swimmer will need a competitive suit (swim trunks are okay for guys to wear to practice), goggles, and fins. A great place to go to get everything is at Paradowski's Swim and Sport. They are located at:
7962 Convoy Court
(52 East and exit Convoy head south left on Convoy Court)
(619) 569-6946
Practices: We practice 5 times a week year round. It is recommended that you swim 5 times a week. If you cannot make all five practices, please make at least three. The first practice is from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. This is a practice for all novice swimmers. Second practice is from 5:00 PM to 6:15 PM. This is for all A and B swimmers along with all older swimmers.
Swim meets: We have two meets a month during the USS season. One novice meet and one USS meet. In every swim meets all swimmers must be present at check in time. All swimmers must have a valid and current USS registration card to participate in any swim meet.
Novice meets: Novice meets are always one day. There is no referee and every swimmer receives a participation ribbon. There is no pre registration and sign up is before the meet. Meets will usually last no longer past 12 PM.
USS or USA Swim meets: There are three levels in USS. A, B, and C. Each swimmer will be categorized in a level accordingly to their times. All novice swimmers will usually start at level C. They are able to swim at C meets, or even A, B, C meets. Once a swimmer makes the required time in any particular event, they will only be able to swim that event in AB, BC, or ABC.
For example: If Sally swims a C time in the butterfly and backstroke event. B time in the breaststroke event. Sally will not be able to swim the breaststroke event in the C meet. If Sally is swimming in an ABC meet, she will be able to swim all of her events and ranked accordingly to her times.
USA meets require pre registration. The due date is located on the back of the meet information sheet. Also located on the back is the entry information card. The entry information card must be completed and filled out properly. Turn in entry information card to Monique(coach) along with mandatory meet fees. All USA swim meets have referees and for each swimming event, a place ribbon will be given.
What to bring to meets: Every swimmer will want to bring an extra suit for every event (this is good so that you will not be in a wet and cold suit until the next event), and a towel. Bring healthy foods and drinks, a warm blanket, or chair to sit on and plenty of games. Board games, cards, coloring books, etc are good. Don’t forget to bring warm clothes and warm boots.
